Topic: China’s Policies and its Neighbors

Ambassador CHEN, one of China’s best-known diplomats for the last half-century, will review the history of relations between China and neighboring countries and analyze the background of and main factors contributing to changes in this environment. He will also discuss China's policy choices.

The speaker is currently President of the United Nations Association of China, Dean of the School of International Studies at Renmin University and director of the Center of United Nations Studies at Fudan University.

Ambassador CHEN was Under Secretary General of the United Nations from 2001 to 2007 and China’s ambassador to Japan for three years before that. He has also served as China’s assistant foreign minister, as China’s ambassador to the United Nations and in a series of other roles after joining the foreign ministry in 1966.

The Commissioner’s Office in Hong Kong of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged the speaker’s visit to the city.
