Mr. Ng talked about the challenges he faced in 2015 when setting up FactWire, a crowdfunded news agency which went on to break several headline stories, including the one involving the detainment of Singapore military vehicles by Hong Kong Customs. He also shared his thoughts on how a news content provider like FactWire, which does not take on advertisements, can remain competitive in a tough market environment, and also his game plan for the future of FactWire.
The speaker had worked as a television journalist for TVB and i-Cable TV news for over a decade before he founded the EyePress press photo agency in 2007. In September 2015, Mr. Ng went on to establish FactWire after successfully crowdfunding the seed fund of USD 600,000 from the Hong Kong public. FactWire now has a team of ten journalists mainly focused on watchdog journalism and where the speaker does not hold any paid position, making this news agency a truly boss/investor free public service news organization. |
