Henry Chung is one of the world’s premier blues harmonica players. In 2004, he was inducted into the Harmonica Hall of Fame in the USA. The next year, he was rated one of Washington’s top jazz and blues musicians by the Washington Post.
He returned to Hong Kong in 2006, and his appearance the following year with Mitch Woods and Hong Kong’s No. 1 jazz guitarist, Eugene Pao, was labeled by the South China Morning Post as “one of the greatest performances of 2007.” He was inducted into the “Who’s Who of the Hong Kong Music Industry,” and was voted one of the top 40 Hong Kong musicians by TimeOut HK Magazine in 2008.
His Canto-Gospel-Blues album, “The Chimes,” was rated among the best 800 audiophile CDs by “The CD Bible,” and was one of the 10 bestselling jazz albums at HMV in 2009.
Chung will be appearing at the FCC on July 16 with his own band, The Spontaneous Combustion, featuring Ram Cheung on guitar and vocals Tsang Tak Hong on bass, Joel Haggard on drums, and guest performer Allen Youngblood on piano. For blues lovers, this is a show not to be missed.
