Will interest rates rise? Should I buy tech stocks? Is inflation really as temporary as central bankers think? These are just some of the questions the world’s investors wrestle with every day and that renowned market analyst Herald van der Linde will seek to answer in a look at the region’s bourses. Van der Linde, dubbed the Flying Dutchman by his HSBC colleagues, has just published a jargon-busting guide to markets from Shanghai to Mumbai, including using the shelf life of sushi to help explain the value of dividends. Moderated by Jennifer Hughes, FCC Board member and financial journalist, he’ll discuss how markets got to this point, and where they are headed.
Herald van der Linde’s latest book, Asia’s Stock Markets from the Ground Up has just been published by Marshall Cavendish. It follows his 2020 debut Jakarta: History of a Misunderstood City. In his day job, this long-time FCC member is HSBC’s equity strategy chief for Asia-Pacific, having joined the bank in 2005. Before that he worked as a strategist in Indonesia, South Africa and Taiwan. He holds the CFA designation, speaks seven languages and has an MSc in macroeconomics. Herald is also an Associate of the Institute of Wine and Spirits and is a certified lecturer for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust.
