Club Lunch: Bitcoin in China – Past, Present, and Future

China’s digital currency space has been changing at dizzying speed. Just this year, exchanges eliminated fee-free bitcoin trading, stopped bitcoin margin trading, paused bitcoin withdrawals, banned initial coin offerings and finally announced they would shut down operations. Mr. Lee will help make sense of it all. He will share the behind-the-scenes story of Bitcoin in China — based on his experiences as CEO of BTCC, China’s first and longest-running bitcoin exchange — and share perspectives on the past, present, and future of blockchain in the largest payments market in the world.

Bobby Lee is co-founder and chief executive officer of BTCC, the leading bitcoin financial platform and the longest-running bitcoin exchange worldwide. He also serves on the board of the Bitcoin Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to promote the adoption of bitcoin globally. Before founding BTCC, Lee worked as vice president of technology at Walmart. He was also an early software engineer at Yahoo, where he led the development of the first online communities. Lee, who was born in the Ivory Coast and grew up in the US, has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Stanford University.
