Already home to some of China’s fastest growing tech companies, Guangdong province is actively developing and promoting an innovation driven economy in order to enhance its competitiveness. The province, neighbouring Hong Kong, will build a national science and technology industrial innovation centre. Guangdong also plans to implement tech-friendly policies that will boost funding, development, and talent to grow the technology sector of the economy. The speaker addressed how Guangdong plans to implement this strategy, including plans to create new R&D institutions and commercialize scientific achievements. Huang Ningsheng is the Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province. He is a research professor and doctorial tutor who has received special government allowance from China’s State Council. Huang has served as Dean of the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Guangzhou Center for Natural Gas Hydrate Research. He has also served as Director of the Sustainable Development Research Center of Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry. He has participated in 30 research projects on the national, provincial and ministerial level and published over 70 academic papers. |
