Topic: Typhoon Haiyan: Behind the Lens, Beyond the Headlines – Covering the Story
The three-month anniversary of one of the world’s most devastating typhoons is upon us. The tragedy killed more than 6,000 people and left more than 4 million people homeless. Correspondents rushed into the shattered region to report on stories of human tragedy and human need, making the world aware of the extraordinary damage that had been inflicted and the desperate need for a massive humanitarian effort. That effort was slow to get started, but ended up saving many from injuries, hunger and thirst.
Kristie Lu Stout, a CNN anchor, and Keith Bradsher, Hong Kong bureau chief of The New York Times, went to the heart of the devastation to cover the typhoon’s aftermath. They will describe their work and the personal stories behind the story.
