SPEAKER
RANA MITTER Director of the China Centre, University of Oxford
Wednesday, October 7, 2020
8:00pm HKT on Zoom
Renowned China scholar Rana Mitter will discuss his new book, China’s Good War: How World War II is Shaping a New Nationalism in this Zoom event. With 2020 marking the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, Mitter argues that China’s reassessment of the conflict has been central to its confidence abroad and to mounting nationalism at home. He will discuss China’s new narrative that positions Beijing as creator and protector of the international order that emerged from the war, and that is now under threat from the United States. Moderated by FCC president, Jodi Schneider.
Rana Mitter OBE FBA is Director of the China Centre at the University of Oxford. His book, China’s War with Japan, 1937-45: The Struggle for Survival (Penguin, 2013), was a Book of the Year for the Economist and Financial Times. His newest book is China’s Good War: How World War II is Shaping a New Nationalism.
