In it, former National Security Adviser John Bolton brands Trump “unfit for office” and says the November election is the last chance to save America from the irreparable harm a second Trump term would cause. Bolton’s book is full of gossipy details about Trump, such as a meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where Bolton says Trump asked for Xi’s help in his re-election bid. Critics say Bolton should have told these details to congressional investigators during impeachment hearings rather than saving them for the book. John R. Bolton served as assistant to the President for National Security Affairs from April 9, 2018 until his resignation on September 10, 2019. From January 2007 to April 2018 he was a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. He held positions in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, including as U.S. Representative to the United Nations from 2005 to 2006 and Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security from 2001 to 2005.
